a song for today…

My father, in the 60’s —  used to get us sparklers.

He would show up with the kinds of things that were magic to my little brother and I.

Last year I wrote a part of my novel about that.

They used to sell them in little roadside stands in California.

I love them to this day.

I have listened to Springsteen since my teens.  He was always on the radio as a backdrop in a way.  I’ve never bought any of his albums, but, he represents Americana especially today in a way.  Here is an acoustic version of the song “Born in the USA.”

However you celebrate, I hope you have a good day.  Today.

I would trust a sparkler if it was made in the United States.  I really would.

I wish I had one, and I wish today that things were still made in the USA.

    I had started to write earlier. Then the air conditioning went on the blink. I hurried to buy a filter. Put it in……then…….Took my mother to brunch. AC, still not working very good.

    Not a good thing in AZ. Tomorrow the repair man comes. Anyway. Hopefully it will hold through the night. Been a rough month…..in more ways than one.

    1. I’m sorry to hear about the air conditioner, OMG. Song! Hope you had a great fourth. Went inland to the sun, north of here. It’s so cold, Song. No summer as usual, truly. Fogged in. Miss you and will call soon? Take care, you. It was good to just get away instead of looking at the news.

    Summer solstice parade! I think I saw that street when I was there? I didn’t know there were solstice parades… lol

    1. That parade started ages ago…LOL.
      It’s become very touristy — used to be artists running it.
      Just over the hills is the sun once you get away from the fog. Twenty five minutes and the temp goes up by 25 degrees or so?
      This is one of the coldest summers ever. The climate is very off out here. Way off.

    1. This is climate change. I know it because I have lived here all my life. I have. I hope you can sleep soon. I want to be elsewhere — the West is imploding, Song. Not good. Be safe, there. I’m watching on the news about your state. My state? Well. Very bad news. Economically.

  6. well, I believe you. And that has to be hard on you. I know you think a lot about leaving. You’re right about the economy and the West. The whole US if the dollar goes. Geez. I don’t know what is ahead, and i study it? So many opinions to sift through. I do think the government is going to bail out California. California is the 7th largest economy in the world? If they can jump start California, it might start bringing back the whole economy.

    I feel safe here in Az Bonnaire right now. But, if things get bad, i don’t particularly want to be in a big city with a lot of angry people.

    Still tired but got 6 hours uninterrupted sleep. yay! finally.

    1. I was looking at other places, in the East. Vermont? It was beautiful. But? I’m the same — away from cities. You can sense the mood out here when you drive around. Can’t stand it. The land back east looks so beautiful. It must be the heat making you not sleep? This is like the North Pole this summer. Hideous fog for days and days and freezing cold.

  7. You’re right. I feel that “mood” here in Phx. You live in a beautiful place, and you’re a Californian through and through, and? Lover of the sea. However, i know why you want to move and this foggy and cold weather you describe sounds so bleak…

    Vermont is a beautiful place. I drove through it when I was in my twenties. Green mountains and little churches with white steeples nestled in valleys. I remember that vividly.

    a friend of mine who lived in England for 20 yrs just came back to the USA and chose a little town in Massachusetts. she loves it there…She and her husband had to leave the UK because it became too expensive…

    I don’t know where I am going to go yet. But when I can? I will leave Phx.
