If there is one story everybody in America ought to read it’s this one from Alternet, today.
Take a look at these statistics:
The U.S. has 59 million people medically uninsured; 132 million without dental insurance; 60 million without paid sick leave; 40 million on food stamps.
I’m going to tell you a really sad American story today.
I’m going to tell you what happened at the newspaper I used to work for. Mostly because I wish President Obama would severely punish the perpetrator who did what they did to me. I’m sure he’s familiar with what happened in the year 2005 at that place, but if not?
He can look that up right here!
The thing is, I have never gotten over what happened to me in the year 2000. It has now been one decade since what happened to me. I have never been through anything as disgusting in my life. My biggest wish is that Obama would go for the jugular and set an example.
The statistics in the Alternet article apply to most of the American Newspaper Industry.
Just like our president I worked my way through college, and then through graduate school for career number two — being a therapist.
One of the things that I admire about our President is that he worked in community service. It’s something that I did as well, for the very poor in my own community — for free, while I worked at that paper.
I had dreams of helping just like he did, because we both come from the same part of the Baby Boom. The part they call Generation Jones.
We haven’t stuck with just one job in Generation Jones, have we?
In our hearts is a kind of unstoppable idealism. As Americans. Horatio Alger and all that.
What we have seen in the last decade is the American Corporation turn on Americans and America itself. Reading that Alternet article, and looking at the statistics is a very grim reality on New Year’s Eve.
The situation in America is very dire, for Americans. I tend to look at these things from a Depth Psychological lens. People who consider themselves Democrats in Obama’s generation care about “the little people,” no?
That is why we chose the Democratic Party to begin with, the first time we ever voted.
I grew up believing in Martin Luther King.
I grew up believing in JFK.
I grew up believing in our politicians in America.
I’d like to see President Obama make things right for Americans who have suffered because of what happened to them. In the meantime, I came across something really great going on! It’s called “Chip In.”
Damn.

Like most of the women who grew up in Obama’s generation — we are American Feminists. Generation Jones style feminists — which is why we planned on voting for Hillary Clinton.
