Let’s go back to the genogram again based on yesterday’s discussion of Piaget and cognition in normal development. Let’s add in a few more things and take a look at culture as gestalt worldwide as well — especially in developed countries.
We want to look at this era:
We are going to do a timeline genogram breakdown of the era in terms of child development and cognition. Here is a youtube from yesterday that I am reposting.

We are seeing the emoticons being role played by a group of teenagers in Spanish?
There are two things that have happened in the generation that has been born between 1970 and now that are different than the generation that was born prior to 1970 experienced.
We will need to refine the genogram into eras, because we are covering a two generation period over roughly 41 years.
Yesterday we looked at Piaget and magical thinking — how that develops, as well as what is called the Depressive Position. Here is an article from The Telegraph in England that supports that thesis.
So, we are interested in how feeling states are processed.
In looking at the video above? The girls have attached an emoticon to describe a feeling state.

This is a facial expression that explains a feeling state?
This is a primitive “language” that has developed?
It is also an empty language? There cannot be any pictures made out of metaphor in this kind of symbol system?

Birthdate along the genogram for this era is 1977.
Age along this imagery for the period is 34.
In the art we can see effects of “video imagery” — pre-scripted games in this period as imaginal.
What are feeling states depicted in first and second videos?
Top video is half of age 34 — so feeling states at 15 are represented by emoticons?
Want to trace meds prescribed in the era 1977 forward ————————————— 2011.
Trace rise of technology in this era in home at school. Trace age of child with computer — 22 months?
Intervention ————- “grow language” from the emoticons out into narrative and art.
My sense that the emoticons are not related to actual felt states. In watching the role play in the top video — the feeling staters are worn as “masks” — to depict a “state of mind” ——-

Still working out tx plan. My sense is that the pre-scripted games made a clean slate of the imaginal in ages birth to 9?
Meds may have been given (Kipnis research) as diagnosis for ADHD because of “drill like” computer ed circa 1984 forward?
There are symbols for things?
My sense though, is that these are disconnected in “logical” — thought processes — that would have occured in generations before 1970. Hence the empty books in that video below.
